AI in Procurement
AI in Procurement considers the AI lifecycle in conjunction with the procurement lifecycle. This may sound simple but is quite complex. The federal government’s framework for the use of AI includes, but is not limited to:
- National Framework for the Assurance of Artificial Intelligence in Government. (Australia wide government initiative that includes all State and Territory governments).
- AI in Government Policy.
- Engaging with Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Guidelines for Secure AI systems development (ACSC)
- Deploying AI Systems Securely (ACSC)
- Artificial Intelligence in Government (DTA)
- An Introduction to AI (ASD)
In addition, the US government’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has produced other useful documents, such as:
NIST-AI-600-1, Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework: Generative Artificial Intelligence Profile.
The AIDLC is the process of implementing an AI solution from ideation to model deployment with the intent to make informed risk-based decisions through the design, deployment and operation of AI solutions. Therefore, considerations for AI procurement documentation may include but not be limited to the following:
Is the AI solution secure-by-design?
What are the AI solution constraints and does that effect service delivery to the public?
Has the AI solutions supply chain been adequately identified and mapped?
How does the AI solution adhere to the National Framework for the Assurance of Artificial Intelligence in Government?
What is the AI solution’s Disaster Recovery strategy?
AI solution development differs from traditional software development and as a result AI solutions are prone to issues that aren’t present in traditional software development such as data poisoning and hallucinations.
